The Vision

The human flesh trade is a 32 billion dollar industry a year and it’s growing. We’re talking an estimated 4-6 million women and children in sexual slavery. The average age of an exploited female is 14-16. The average age of a male is 12. The average lifespan of a victim is 4-6 years due to violence and suicide. The cause is not poverty. The cause is a growing market demand for product. While traffickers and brothel owners are women as well as men, the estimated one billion users are almost all men. Sexual trafficking isn’t a female problem. It is a global human crisis.

MARKETING & ADVERTISING
IN THE 21st CENTURY

As we all know, things have changed.  Thanks to social networking, "word of mouth" and "personal recommendation" have once again become the strongest advertising tools--this time with a global punch.  In the flux, women have moved to the forefront as the single most important spending demographic. And women's causes have become the smartest place for a company to focus its charitable giving.

S.M.A.R.T. WOMEN INTERNATIONALtogether with its "sister" non-profit SMS 1865 —is ahead of the curve. We’re breaking the charity model by creating a full-fledged for-profit and non-profit marketing partnership that attacks the sexual trade of women and children from multiple angles. Our model raises the bar on social corporate responsibility and takes cause marketing to a whole new level.

S.M.A.R.T. WOMEN INTERNATIONAL is not another women's networking group.  We are a social movement with a unique vision, business brand and marketing strategy.

from the profit side-- S.M.A.R.T.will be THE on-line resource center for spiritually minded women in business, offering ground-up transformational work, events, courses, online training, affiliation discounts and member benefits (such as micro-loans and group health insurance) to help women monetize their life skills and move their product or service from concept to marketplace.

While we are building businesses, we are also building community.  Our Members’ Directory will enable women create affiliations with other S.M.A.R.T. women worldwide to grow their companies and markets. Members pledge time to mentoring another woman, and every company we help develop pledges a percentage of revenues to stopping the sex-trade.

In addition, smart international press will publish our monthly members’ magazine and non-fiction books, while smart shoppe—our online shopping mall--will market our members’ products and services worldwide.   This comprehensive model is just part of doing business The S.M.A.R.T. way.

WHAT’S IN A NAME

SMS. Stop Modern Slavery. 1865: The year that slavery in the US became not just illegal—but also unconstitutional. We did it once. We can do it again. In 2013, we’re taking this message global.

from the NON-profit side--

SMS 1865 is our non-profit partner.  Using the same mentoring and business model, our first Smart Women’s Center is already active in Pune, India, where we have a team of 6 people and 25 field workers.  Part of our unique approach to stopping the sex trade is to provide rehabilitation and employment alternatives for sex traffickers as well as victims. We recently brought out two women from exploitation and two sex traffickers. We are in currently in dialogue with two more traffickers.  Victims of the industry whom we help, in turn pledge their commitment to becoming voices for change within the SMS 1865 movement--regardless of what role they have played in the exploitation industry.

Our fund-raising model is also unique. We are putting together a national 5-city tour of committed rock-country music stars, to create awareness, enlist active support, and raise a projected $6 million net total for the implementation of SMS 1865 programs. With administrative and operating costs covered by S.M.A.R.T., 100% of all donations go directly to the cause.

Our specific programs include a 4-digit national hotline for exploited sexual victims; innovative media campaigns, webisodes, and a “popumentary.” We have a unique model using mobile technology and sms text messaging to reach vulnerable areas of the world heretofore considered “unreachable.” These include hard-hit poverty areas where girls especially are susceptible, as well as the large contact lists of sex-addicts whom our rescued traffickers share with us. They all need to hear a new message.

With an estimated 5 billion cell phones on the planet, sms and video messaging is the S.M.A.R.T. WAY to get to the word out.
